The SSD-Insider ++ concept provides for the assessment of drive activity patterns in the event of ransomware attacks.

A team of scientists from universities in South Korea and the United States have developed new technology to help protect solid state drives (SSDs) from ransomware attacks by quickly detecting and removing encryption within seconds.

The SSD-Insider ++ concept provides for the assessment of drive activity patterns in the event of ransomware attacks. Instead of software protection, the technology uses the drive itself directly - protection is provided at the controller level using special firmware.

According to the authors of the study, this idea arose from the fact that most users do not care about installing anti-ransomware software.

If malicious activity is detected, the system disables I / O on the drive, allowing the user to remove the malicious encryption process. SSD-Insider ++ also allows you to recover data in just a few seconds.

In testing, the technology has been shown to be 100% effective against laboratory and real ransomware samples, including WannaCry and Mole. The information was restored within 10 seconds. It is noted that the technology provoked an increase in work delays by 12.8-17.3%.
